All About Me
Teaching Career
My name is Kristy MacNevin and I'm the first grade teacher at Oakhill Academy. Prior to coming to Oakhill Academy, I have taught at many different places! I started out my teaching career in Minnesota. I got my bachelors degree in 2009 in Elementary Education. I graduated with my masters in Teaching and Learning doing my thesis on reading workshop and small group reading from St. Mary's in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I taught for 5 years in Minnesota at a charter school. I taught third grade for four years with a year of subbing and long term subbing in fourth grade prior to my third grade experience. I taught at a charter school where a lot of the same beliefs were held as at Oakhill. I then taught one year at Hillcrest Academy in third grade and one year at Temecula Preparatory School in first grade. Last year I spent my year here at Oakhill Academy teaching first grade. I'm SO excited to be back with this amazing community of students, teachers and families!
I hold my students to a high standard as well as love to have fun and let them learn together as a community. My prior reading experience will be very helpful in teaching first grade again this year. I love to read and hope to share my love for reading with the students on a daily basis. I cannot wait for an amazing and successful year!
Personal Background
I was born in Minnesota, lived in Texas for nine years, then lived in Minnesota again until June 2015. My husband and I got married in 2015, then immedietly had to move to California 3 days after. My husband Jimmy and I have lived in Temecula for the past 3 years. My husband and I moved out here as he was re-stationed to Camp Pendleton for his job as a firefighter in the Marine Corps. He has now been re-stationed at Mirimar in San Diego. He has been in for 18 years so we are very close to retirement! I have a 4 year old Jack Russell Terrier named Max that keeps me quite busy. In our free time, we love to golf, hike and enjoy time exploring new places! I love spending time with Jimmy, my 2 stepsons Dillon and Tyler and my dog Max. I love when we have friends and family visit from out of state! I'm so excited to be here and get the opportunity to work at a wonderful school with wonderful students and families.
